Volunteer
Useful help,
offered on the
family’s terms.
We match volunteers to real needs rather than creating roles to fill. That means fewer openings, and ones that actually matter.
How we think about it
Families live here. It is their home, not a volunteer site.
Residents did not sign up to be visited. Some volunteer roles bring people into daily contact with families, and those require screening, training, and a real commitment of time. Others happen entirely behind the scenes and are just as valuable.
We will be direct about which roles are open, what each involves, and what we need from you.
Where help matters
What we typically need.
Openings change. Tell us your skills and availability and we will tell you honestly whether there is a fit right now.
Skilled professional time
Legal, financial, medical, accounting, IT, HR, and communications expertise, offered pro bono.
Program facilitation
Leading a workshop or series through the Community Door in an area you actually know well.
Facility and grounds
Maintenance, repairs, seasonal grounds work, and unit turnover between residents.
Events and gatherings
Setup, hospitality, and logistics for community events and gatherings.
Administrative support
Data entry, mailings, inventory, and organizing — unglamorous and genuinely needed.
Drives and in-kind
Organizing a collection around a current need. Contact us first so what arrives is what is useful.
Requirements
What we ask.
Background check
Required for any role with access to families, children, or the residential building.
Orientation
A session covering privacy, boundaries, and how we work. Required before your first shift.
Confidentiality
A signed agreement. What you see and hear here stays here.
Photography
No photographs or video of families, children, or the building. This one has no exceptions.
Consistency
For family-facing roles, a regular commitment. Intermittent presence is harder on families than none.
Age
Volunteers must be 18 or older for family-facing roles. Some project-based roles are open to younger volunteers with a supervising adult.
